on Tuesday 24th February 2015 local Author John Sheen will giving a talk at the Tyneside Irish Centre on World War 1 and its impact on the Tyneside community. The talk commences at 7pm and admission is free. John is the author of the book Tyneside Irish, a comprehensive history of the Tyneside Irish Brigade raised in the North East. It covers their raising, training and active service as well as the aftermath of the war and how it affected their community. John is also the author of Tyneside Scottish; the first detailed account of the Tyneside Scottish Brigade, formed in response to Kitchener's call for a new army, made up of local men from around Newcastle, few of whom were Scots.

My uncle Thomas R. Scott.was joined the Tyneside Irish. and was awarded the M.M..posthumously. I am trying to find a photograph. of him. He was killed July 1st at The Somme cooled you advise please. Leave a Reply. |
