on Tuesday 24th February 2015 local Author John Sheen will giving a talk at the Tyneside Irish Centre on World War 1 and its impact on the Tyneside community. The talk commences at 7pm and admission is free. John is the author of the book Tyneside Irish, a comprehensive history of the Tyneside Irish Brigade raised in the North East. It covers their raising, training and active service as well as the aftermath of the war and how it affected their community. John is also the author of Tyneside Scottish; the first detailed account of the Tyneside Scottish Brigade, formed in response to Kitchener's call for a new army, made up of local men from around Newcastle, few of whom were Scots.
Tickets for the Association Inaugural Grand Dinner are now on sale priced at £20. The three course dinner will be held at the Tyneside Irish Centre in Gallowgate, Newcastle upon Tyne on Friday 20th March 2015. Musical accompaniment during the meal will be provided by world renowned Irish harpist Michaela Dorrity along with support from a traditional Irish Piper. The evening will be rounded off in true Irish fashion with music from the Tony Corcoran Band. |
