Remembering fellow Fusiliers of the Tyneside Scottish

The Tyneside Irish Brigade Association and all of its friends have been invited to  the  annual Remembrance service of our sister battalion the Tyneside Scottish on the day of Scotland’s patron saint.
The St Andrews Day remembrance service will take place at the Eldon Square War Memorial in Newcastle City Centre on the 30th November at 12.30 for 1pm and afterwards in the Tyneside Irish Centre.
Like our St. Patrick’s Day Remembrance this provides an opportunity for the Tyneside Scottish to remember their gallant men and is especially important in this year 2016, the centenary of The Somme. It’s important to point out the this battle, which started with such terrible casualties for the Tyneside Scots and the Tyneside Irish on 1st July only finished on November 18th 2016. Thus our St Patrick’s Day Remembrance on 17th March and the Tyneside Scots St. Andrews Day Remembrance on 30th November provide suitable days before and after the battle when the 2 battalions who suffered the worst casualties and are forever united in sacrifice, place, community and history can remember the fallen.
We will be there on November 30th
at Eldon Square to remember the gallant Tyneside Scots, we hope many attend.”

Remembrance Sunday 2016

The Association will once again be represented at the service of remembrance at the Eldon Square war memorial in Newcastle city centre on Sunday 13th November at 11am. This years service will be particularly poignant; being 100 years since so many of the Tyneside Irish lost their lives on the battlefields of France.
Commemoration 2016
Planning is at an early stage but we intend to be present at the commemorations to mark the 100th Anniversary of the battle of the Somme on the 1st of July 2016; remembering the men of the Tyneside Irish Brigades.
St Patrick's Day Remembrance 2016
The annual Remembrance of the Tyneside Irish who served and lost their lives in the Great War was AGAIN marked with a wreath laying service on St Patrick's Day at Eldon Square War Memorial In  Newcastle city centre.  This year was particularly poignant for the Tyneside Irish as it marked 100 years since the men of Tyneside paraded their colours with such pride before departing for France in 1916.

Inaugural Grand Dinner 2015
The Association's Inaugural Grand Dinner  took place on Friday 20th March at the Tyneside Irish Centre in Newcastle where 105 guests dined out on Vegetable soup, Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding and Apple crumble with ice cream.  Musical accompaniment during the meal was provided by world renowned Irish harpist Michaela Dorrity along with support from a traditional Irish Piper. The evening was rounded off in true Irish fashion with music from the Tony Corcoran Band. To everyone who supported the dinner; thank you. The evening was a resounding success and has driven us on to repeat the festivities next year.

Annual Commemoration
The 1st July marks the beginning of the Battle of the Somme: one of the most important battles of the Great War. Each year, in remembrance of the men who fought and died during this battle, very moving commemorations are held at La Boisselle, Thiepval, Beaumont-Hamel and other sites of remembrance of the Great War. The service at the Lochnagar Crater, La Boisselle, starts at 7:30am and marks the beginning of the day’s commemorations. During the morning, commemorations continue at the 16th Royal Scots Memorial, Contalmaison, and at the Thiepval Memorial. In the afternoon more commemorations take place at the Ulster Tower, Thiepval, and at the Newfoundland Memorial Park, Beaumont-Hamel. The day ends with a ceremony at the German cemetery at Fricourt.
